Changes are coming

My director announced today, publicly, that she has been offered the lab director job at the local children’s hospital. She says that if she accepts the position and submits her resignation we may not see her again. Apparently our company dismisses its management employees immediately upon receipt of a resignation. I also happen to know that my manager is looking to sell her house and move her family back “home.” In addition to these, our upper administration has just approved a “lab supervisor” position that was just recently filled. My prediction is that she will become the director (which will be a good thing for us) and then there will be two slots to fill.

A co-worker and I talked for about 20 minutes sitting in her vehicle after having clocked out for the day this afternoon. She flattered me when she said that she thinks I should be the choice for the lab supervisor. There’s just one problem: I don’t have a bachelor’s degree. She also said she’s trying to talk the newly appointed supervisor, who would be director, into rewriting the job description as a “technical supervisor” with a minimum requirement of holding a license as a Medical Technologist (which I have). I am excited about the little bitty possibility of this. I have no idea if it’s even feasible, however, in addition to all of this I have been given the go-ahead by my husband to start up a conversation with a recruiter from the University of Memphis to see if there is a degree that could fit into my 145 hours of undergraduate coursework (for which I only have an associate’s degree).

Anyway, keep me in your prayers, because this is exciting to me and I am so flattered that I am being talked about with regard to management. My director, by the way, gave me the umpteenth lecture today on getting my degree when I went in to congratulate her and thank her for what she has done for me and for our lab. Lisa Matthews: Baptist-Desoto will miss you!!
