Insurance

We have finally wrapped up our insurance claims (yes, plural) on the house. The first was due to the kitchen sink. We believed that the water/mold in our closet came as a result of that leak. After the restoration service dried out our home I found water in the closet again. So I initiated a second claim after having a plumber come out and diagnose the problem: water traveling through our shower wall. The tile job was badly done when the previous owners installed the whirlpool tub and we get to deal with the damage. We have been fortunate, however, because we received nearly $5,000 for both claims. We have about 120 square feet of floor in the kitchen to replace and we have to have the complete surround tile job done in the master bathroom.

I was given $650 toward the repair of the master closet, however I put the square of drywall into the hole from which it was cut and bought a remnant of carpet and a utility knife to replace the carpeting that was torn out. I spent a grand total of $30 on the closet and we’ve already moved back into it. I have the flooring I need for the kitchen for a total of about $250 and I’ve spent about $200 on the bathroom to redecorate it. I have bought a shower curtain and hooks, some matching accessories and a large mirror for over the sinks to replace the double ovals that we had. I got some new fixtures for the shower/tub to be installed when the tile is done. I still need some towels and a couple more accessories. I am going to pick out paint and have the room painted by whoever does the labor in the tub for me. If there’s any money leftover after the work is done I’ll probably buy a new light fixture and some new hardware for the cabinets to match the new decor.

I have run most of this by Matt as I’ve decided that I wanted it and on Friday he uttered the words that gave him major brownie points: “Do whatever makes you happy in that bathroom.” Aaawwwwww . . .

Ok, sorry about the mess, having to deal with insurance, and all the financial worries that comes with this stuff. On the other hand, congratulations on the new custom look for your home! So will you end up on tope even with kitchen floor stuff and everything else?

BTW, glad to see your posting and to be able to keep up with you this way. What a great look for your blog! (wink)
